Why Windows is still the Big Dog out there

If you’re looking at market share of Desktop Operating Systems, you will find that Microsoft Windows owns the desktop market. Of course. I am not surprised. I say mission accomplished and great job! Keep going. Here are few links to resources on the subject

Today, I simply wanted to write about this a bit and share my thoughts on the subject. Here are some of my reasons of why Windows is very successful in reaching the masses

  1. Generally speaking, the Windows OS is very user friendly. It’s easy to use for the average person. I remember one day an instructor at my college said, if you can’t get to what you need in 3 or more ways, you’re doing something wrong. He’s right. No wonder there are more people in the world running Windows than any other OS
  2. Compatibility is in everything Microsoft does. If an application is not compatible with a version of the OS, Microsoft ensures that there is a way and method to run it. Others may not even bother to be compatible and choose to load small code base versus worrying about compatibility
  3. Integration and the holistic approach to software. If you know what an MMC is and how you can add Snap Ins, you pretty much can manage a load of applications from one place. There are wizards to install applications for you. There are management studios and consoles. There is a boat load of SDKs, Videos, Sample Projects, Communities, and Forums. It’s a lot easier to find a Microsoft Developer than any other type of developer out there. It’s easy to learn the platform and easy to build applications on top of it
