If you haven’t heard by now. Leave and go read up on what Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella is saying about how AI and the multi-agent framework is changing the way we look at Applications (“Apps”) and how we use them.
SaaS is Dead, Says Microsoft CEO. Introduction | by Boqiang Liang | Dec, 2024 | Medium
AI is changing the entire model we will use to design, build and deploy applications. We are at a place and time today that will define what comes next. It reminded me of Ignite 2016 Conference where Satya first announced that he will be working on “democratizing AI”. It took him 9 or so years to achieve that vision.
Democratizing AI – Johnny Harbieh
Today, well days ago, he does it again. He lays a new one on us. He is imagining a world where UI and UX are no longer needed. He is imagining a world where the middle tier is replaced with intelligent agents built with knowledge and ability to consume and respond to human interactions with ease. These agents will only need to understand data. This data can be anything from company enterprise data to personal files or even remote databases.
Of course, I am generalizing and saying “AI” to cover all the basis. The main idea or concept that Satya is speaking about is super interesting. It is simple yet complex. It does make absolute sense, and I believe it is very much achievable.
Is this what Web 4.0 is about?
Anyways, for an old-timer like me, we’ve always understood the basic tiering of interactions; data stored somewhere accessed via a software layer and presented to the user so that work can get done. We produce data. We collect the data. We curate it. We clean it up and analyze it, and so on and so forth. Data has always been, and is today, and will always be the blood material of the digital world. It’s the same old house.
Data is King. Security is the Queen. And together they make out our fabulous industry that kept us paid.
In summary what I am imagining here as a response to this news is simply put as described in this diagram.
Consumer >> Multi-Agent Framework and Orchestration Layer >> Data

Let me know what you think. By the way, here is the podcast episode where Satya drops the news on us.
Enjoy the new era all!
